24 The Square Shop Manager:
Holsworthy Mrs Yvonne Sweeney
EX22 6AN Tel: 01409 254279
Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Saturday 9:00 am - Lunchtime
We are open on some Saturday afternoons, but please check with the shop first to avoid a wasted journey, especially if you don't live locally.
Our shop is, without doubt, the main source of regular income for the Charity and has been since our first shop opened in Fore Street in 2000.
In 2008, we moved to our second shop in The Square, but were on the move again in 2013 - just a few doors down, to where we are now at 24 The Square.
Our Charity Shop window has various themes throughout the year.
This display won the "Best Dressed Window" competition at the recent
St Peter's Fair Week!
Yvonne Sweeney has been our Shop Manager since May 2010, and has been closely involved with the Charity since the beginning, as well as being a Trustee for many years. Not content with being an excellent Shop Manager, she has also helped us to take in and re-home about 40 dogs in the Devon area! Here are a few of them.
The shop has a good team of voluntary staff, some of whom have given their time and help since the very early days. They also fundraise in other ways for the Charity in their own time, or at special shop events.
Special thanks to all our customers and to everyone who has helped and supported the Charity shop over the years.
Do you have some spare time to help in the shop for a couple of hours a week?
If so, Yvonne will be delighted to hear from you.
Need help to bring in donated items?
In some instances, if you live in or near Holsworthy, we may be able to collect large or lots of items from you. Please ring the shop to arrange this.
Yvonne and her team are always happy to receive donated goods, from small pieces of furniture and household items, to jewellery, bric-a-brac, books, toys etc. In fact, just about anything and everything that is saleable.
However, they don't appreciate being used as a dumping ground for rubbish, which, we are sorry to say, has happened far too often. Anyone who has watched the TV series, "Mary Queen of Shops" will have seen the hundreds of bags they sorted through, and how many of those items were considered unsuitable to sell.
In our 15 years, we too have received countless broken items, dirty and moth-eaten clothing, soiled underwear and nightclothes, and have even had a dirty nappy!
